The Expanding Wine Tourism http://ping.fm/Vo9x3
The Expanding Wine Tourism
May 6, 2010Wine production has become a real attraction and wineries are being consolidated as tourist centers. Mendoza took the initiative to follow that path but the provinces of Salta, San Juan, La Rioja, Neuquén, Rio Negro, Catamarca and Cordoba are following the same way. The tourism industry in Mendoza found a new version that attracts visitors who choose this land as destination, while it promises to emerge as an important resource for wineries and service operators.
Wine tourism is an activity that was created by mid of 1990s and it has been growing steadily. It has become an important economic activity for producing provinces such as Mendoza, at the time of positioning itself as a tourist destination.
According to research by the Wine Fund Mendoza-entity responsible for the promotion of wine and current coordinator of generic promotion campaign for domestic market “Argentine Wine, A Good Wine”- about 15 percent of the 682 wineries are open to tourism. Of this total, 65 percent count with a special area which is exclusively for personal attention of visitors and guided tastings or activities related to work in the vineyard and the cellar and can be programmed individually or in groups.
Mendoza province receives about 1.7 million visitors each year, spending about one billion dollars in housing, services and shopping. The total of visitors, according to wine industry estimations, nearly a million visit any or some of the 100 wineries in Mendoza that are currently carrying out (with different levels of development) proposals for wine tourism.
Similarly, tourism industry (after the hydrocarbons sector) is the activity that most influence has on Mendoza’s gross domestic product, the provincial head of the Cuyo region and the main pole wine country.
On the other hand, as tourism became a boom, hotel industry started to grow in parallel with it. Currently, there are Mendoza 5 stars hotels that have classy European style and satisfy most exigent demands. One of the newest Mendoza 5 stars hotels that can be mentioned is Diplomatic hotel. This first class Mendoza 5 stars hotel counts with state-of-tha-art rooms which are fully equipped. Diplomat hotel is a Mendoza 5 stars hotels that is located in a residential area at the Cordillera foot and has a spectacular mountain view. Diplomat hotel is considered the luxurious Mendoza 5 stars hotel.
Due to the need of the executive Mendoza sector for Premium hotels, Mendoza 5 stars hotel needed to take a leap of quality to match this demand. In consequence, due to both the official policy to turn Mendoza into a competitive touristic destination and some heavy investments made by the local private sector, Mendoza is now in a position to offer Mendoza 5 stars hotel that can be counted among the Leading hotels of the world.
